However, under the guidance of jockey Harry Bentley, the galloper showcased its true potential, securing a neck-and-neck victory in the Class Two Turf Handicap. This win was a testament to the horse's resilience and the owner's unwavering belief.
But here's where it gets controversial: the owner, Jackie Wong See-sum, expected more, and rightly so. The good draw and suitable pace played a pivotal role in the win, but it was the horse's heart and determination that truly made the difference. Trainer Chris So Wai-yin emphasized this, stating, "The horse has a really good heart. Every time in the straight, it gives you 100%." "The owner wants to discuss and know more. We might aim for the Stewards' Cup, but the choices are limited. We have an entry for the international race, but the distance might be an issue," So explained.
The race also saw some notable performances and disappointments. Soleil Fighter ran an exceptional race to finish second, while Steps Ahead and Sky Heart put up a good fight for third. On the other hand, Douglas Whyte's Shanwah had a less-than-ideal run, finishing last and missing out on the Group One Hong Kong Cup.
Additionally, Dubai Honour, entered for the Group One Hong Kong Vase, seems unlikely to make the trip after a win at Southwell. Keagan de Melo, who rode Shanwah in its final race, bid farewell with a third-place finish on Baby Crystal, leaving Hong Kong with 33 wins and a Group Three success.
