Jordan Stolz, 21, capped off a standout Heerenveen World Cup with a third gold of the weekend and a new personal best for the 500 meters, clocking 33.90 seconds. He finished a mere 0.08 seconds behind the old mark, which belonged to his Dutch rival Jenning de Boo. Across the two prior days, Stolz had already set new standards in each of his signature distances, chopping significant fractions off longstanding marks: 0.45 seconds off the 1500m record (five years old) and 0.7 seconds off the 1000m record, both places previously held by de Boo.
De Boo settled for runner-up in the 500m, as Stolz continued his remarkable sprint sprinting surge. The United States also found gold and medals in other events: Mia Manganello earned her third career individual medal with a second-place finish in the women’s mass start, while the men’s team sprint squad captured silver.
Manganello, who is 36, had already claimed her first World Cup gold at the season opener in Salt Lake City and remained on the podium at World Cup No. 2 with a third-place finish. Stolz, who added the mass start to his World Cup repertoire this season, finished 23rd in that event, having previously earned his first World Cup distance medal in Calgary—a bronze in the mass start.
The U.S. team of Conor McDermott-Mostowy, Cooper McLeod, and Zach Stoppelmoor earned silver in the season’s opening team sprint, posting a 1:18.16. The Dutch claimed gold with a track-record time of 1:17.22.
Last season’s overall season title went to the United States, and this edition’s results keep the competition’s momentum high as the circuit travels next to Hamar, Norway, December 12–14. That stop will be the fourth of five legs and will close the window for nations to secure Olympic quota spots for the 2026 Winter Games.
