Breaking News: Malaysian Rapper Namewee Faces Drug Charges, Despite Public Denial.
This story has taken a dramatic turn! Following his arrest last month, Kuala Lumpur police have confirmed that Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, is facing drug-related charges. This news comes despite Namewee's public denial of any drug use, particularly in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, also known as "Nurse Goddess."
On October 22nd, police apprehended the 41-year-old at a hotel. During the search, officers discovered nine pills suspected to be ecstasy. But that's not all... Wee also tested positive for a concerning mix of drugs, including amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.
According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, Wee was officially charged on October 24th with two offenses under the Dangerous Drugs Act. These charges include possession of drugs under Section 39A(1) and drug use under Section 15(1)(a). The potential penalties are severe. If convicted of the possession charge, Wee could face up to five years in jail and nine strokes of the rotan. The drug use charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in jail or a fine of up to RM5,000.
But here's where it gets controversial... Wee pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on bail of RM4,000 for each charge. The case is scheduled for mention on December 18th.
Yesterday, Namewee addressed the allegations, which first appeared in Chinese vernacular media. He expressed his anger, stating he was "really pissed off" by the reports and the public speculation surrounding the incident.
And this is the part most people miss... According to Sin Chew Daily, Hsieh was found dead in a hotel bathtub on October 30th while working on a video project with Namewee.
