Men's Tennis Team Makes Strides at Navy Invitational
The Saint Joseph's University men's tennis team showcased their skills at the Navy Invitational, held at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Maryland. The tournament saw several impressive performances from the team's players.
On Saturday, Jakob Gaudreau Barnes and John Butler emerged victorious in their respective flights. Barnes, in a thrilling match, rallied from a set down to defeat Nelson Alapi of Bucknell in a supertiebreaker. Butler, on the other hand, dominated Navy's Aaron Gu, securing a straight-sets victory.
The tournament continues on Sunday, with the team's results as follows:
White Singles Flight:
- Jason Kim (Navy) defeated Jakob Gaudreau Barnes (SJU) 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 (STB)
- Barnes (SJU) defeated Nelson Alapi (Bucknell) 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 (STB)
Orange Singles Flight:
- Ethan Garcia (Navy) beat Hector Fullone (SJU) 7-5, 6-2
Green Singles Flight:
- Zack Giertz (Navy) defeated John Butler (SJU) 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 (STB)
- Butler (SJU) beat Aaron Gu (Navy) 6-3, 6-4
- Gu (Navy) defeated Mark Rubin (SJU) 7-5, 6-1
- Giertz (Navy) won against Rubin (SJU) 6-2, 6-3
Additionally, Zhihua Liao from Binghamton secured a victory over Fullone (SJU) with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
