In a recent political development, Dr. Salihu Girei, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu is orchestrating a one-party system by luring governors into the APC. Girei, a former commissioner and governorship aspirant, strongly believes that defections are a result of free political choice rather than coercion.
Speaking to the media in Yola, Girei addressed the allegations that Tinubu or the APC is pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state through high-profile defections. He defended the defection of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, praising his achievements in uniting the Adamawa people, reducing insecurity, and constructing valuable infrastructure. Girei argued that the APC's popularity and the improvements in economic stability, food affordability, and national security are natural attractions for politicians seeking alignment with the ruling party.
Furthermore, Girei highlighted that Fintiri's alignment with President Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope' agenda showcases a shared vision for stability and growth at both state and federal levels. This move, according to Girei, is an endorsement of the party's direction under Tinubu and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who leads the party in the state.
As an aspiring governor, Girei sees Fintiri's solid base as a valuable foundation to build upon, envisioning accelerated development if he secures the APC ticket and wins in 2027.
